Achievements

a) Increased funding for grant giving
During the year the RPLC made grants to 50 organisations who receive annual payments to help them with their core salary and administration costs.  3 organisations, following a review by the Grants Committee, had their grants brought to an end.  On the other hand 7 organisations were given significant uplifts in recognition of their support to the local community.

b) Targeted support for Mental Health initiatives
The strategic priority for grant funding during the year was to projects supporting those affected by mental health issues. It is evident from the number of crisis grant applications RPLC receive each year (around 35% in 2007/08) that mental health issues are an underlying cause of social isolation and financial exclusion for many of our beneficiaries.

Two mental health forums helped the RPLC as a funder to better understand the needs of the sector. The network of organisations involved in this process discovered new possibilities of support for their projects and the potential for partnership work. Applications were invited and considered at a special meeting of the Grants Committee in February, 2008. Grants totalling £115,911 were agreed.
